Description

This apparatus is designed to study and understand the flow of a liquid through a bed of solid particles, but it can also be used for filtration tests on real beds and waters. A bed of granular medium (usually sand, glass beads, etc…) is placed in a vertical clear tube through which water can be made to flow in either a downwards or upwards direction. Water flow comes from a constant head tank connected with the water network and its rate is indicated by a variable area flowmeter. Pressure drop across the bed can be measured either by a water manometer or a mercury manometer.
