Working
principle:
The principle of the instrument is: the grease is
coated on a stainless steel plate and sprayed with water at the specified test
temperature and pressure. After 5 minutes, the spray weight loss percentage of
the grease is determined as a measure of the grease's resistance to water
spraying.
Application
and Standard:
Developed by the American Society for Testing and
Materials (ASTM), the ASTM D4049-20 standard provides a test method for
determining the ability of a grease to adhere to a metal surface when exposed
to water spray under prescribed laboratory conditions. Results from the use of
this test method show correlation in operations involving direct water jet
pulse, such as steel mill roll neck bearing service. This test method is used
for quality control and purchasing specifications.
